While many emerging VC firms are still struggling to raise new funding, Dimension Capital, founded in late 2022, has raised a string of increasingly large funds. On Tuesday, a New York company that invests at the intersection of science and computing announced an $800 million fund. This is 60% more than the second vehicle, which was announced just 18 months ago, at $500 million.
When former Lux Capital partners Zavian Dahl and Adam Goulburn teamed up with Nan Li from Obvious Ventures to launch the company four years ago, they bet the founders would want to build deep tech companies that crossed the line between biotech and software. Now, the three partners admit they are impressed with how quickly their paper came to fruition.
In 2024, they co-led a $30 million seed investment in Chai Discovery. The startup, which develops open source AI-based models for drug development, announced last week that it had raised $400 million at a valuation of $3.8 billion. The company also backed anti-aging startup New Limit in a Series A round in January 2025. Earlier this month, New Limit, co-founded by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, completed its Series C at a valuation of $3.1 billion.
The company's other notable investments include inference companies Modal Labs and Anthropic. Dimension acquired a stake in the AI giant after Anthropic acquired portfolio company Coefficient Bio, a drug discovery platform, for a reported $400 million this spring.
