Discord announced Wednesday it is experimenting with a new virtual reward system aimed at encouraging more users to become involved in interactive advertising. This new feature, called “Orbs,” comes right after the company preparing for a potential IPO.
Users can earn orbs by completing the Quest in Quest. This will allow advertisers to play the game by rewarding virtual items by watching product videos and playing games. Adding orbs gives users the opportunity to redeem exclusive digital items from Discord's shop, including nitro credits, profile badges, avatar decorations, profile effects, and items from the main collection.
As Discord tries to demonstrate to its partners that it is capable of offering a scalable advertising business, it is clear that Orbs' goal is to encourage more interaction with the quest. The company reportedly discussed the possibility of an IPO with investment bankers, according to the New York Times.

Last month, Peter Sellis, Senior Vice President of Products at Discord, highlighted the success of the quest. He reported that over 70 quests have achieved 10% acceptance rates over the past year, with millions of rewards, according to the company's internal data.
Quests are located in the lower left corner of the app on PC and Game Consoles. Plans are in place to expand the quest to mobile devices in June.
Orbs experiments can seduce users who don't have a subscription to try Nitro, as they can spend Orbs on credit instead of using payment methods. For example, users need 1,400 orbs to get a 3-day NITRO. This is usually $10 a month.
Orbs are deployed in small groups of users and will soon expand globally.
