EBay on Tuesday launched a new AI-powered generative feature to appeal to fashion lovers: a “Shop the Look” section within its iOS mobile app that suggests a carousel of images and ideas based on a customer's shopping history. . The company says its recommendations will be customized to the end user and evolve as customers shop more. The idea is to showcase how other fashion items can complement your current wardrobe.
To that end, Shop Looks includes an interactive hotspot that you tap to see similar items and outfit inspiration, and the resulting looks are tailored to your personal style. Includes both used and luxury matching items. The feature is powered by eBay.ai and was developed in collaboration with the company's Responsible AI team and RAI principles, eBay said.
The company says “Shop the look” will appear on eBay shoppers who have viewed at least 10 fashion items in the past 180 days. It appears on both the eBay homepage and the fashion landing page.
For eBay, this new addition provides a different way to showcase its wide range of inventory available for sale, which, if successful, could lead to increased sales. EBay says it will consider expanding into other categories over time and will continue to add more personalization elements to the feature into the new year.
eBay isn't alone in exploring how AI can improve the fashion shopping experience. Last summer, for example, Google introduced a way for consumers to virtually try on clothes using a new AI shopping feature. Amazon also leveraged AI to help customers find the perfect outfit when shopping online. In these cases, AI capabilities aim to help customers find the right fit and size, and eBay's new features focus on fashion inspiration, or finding the right style. Masu. This can be even more difficult to do because personal style is subjective.
Shop the look will be available first on iOS in the US and UK, with Android support coming later this year.
