Facebook deploys the ability of creators to make money for public story opinions. The new monetization options are available globally to creators who are part of the Facebook content monetization program.
This new monetization option allows creators to make money from the content they already create and share when they post on their Facebook Stories. For example, if the creator creates a recipe video or reel, you can share the snippet in the story. You can also make money by posting story content about your daily life as usual.
A company spokesman told TechCrunch in an email that story payments are driven by content performance, allowing creators to make money without first reaching a certain threshold for views.
By monetizing stories, Facebook offers creators an additional revenue stream as a way to encourage more content creation on its platform. The launch has Meta bringing Tiktok creators to Facebook and Instagram, and promises cash bonuses, content trading and community growth.
Creators who are part of their Facebook content monetization program and who have turned on content monetization don't need to do anything else to stimulate story monetization.
Last year, Facebook launched its content monetization program, consolidating in-stream ads, reel ads and performance bonus programs into one. After experimenting with story monetization for selected beta participants, social networks are bringing monetization options to everyone in the program.
Millions of creators have been invited to join the program in 2024, and Facebook says it plans to offer open registrations later this year. In the meantime, creators who are not part of the program may express their interest in the invitation through the program's website.
Last October, Facebook revealed that creators won over $2 billion on social networks in 2024, with over 80% increase in reels and other short videos payouts. Since introducing monetization opportunities in 2017, Facebook has paid over 4 million creators.
