Google's Gemini on Android is an AI replacement for Google Assistant that will soon leverage the ability to deeply integrate with Android's mobile operating system and Google's apps. At the Google I/O 2024 developer conference on Tuesday, the company announced that users will now have more ways to display Gemini overlays on top of the apps they use. Android's built-in AI model “Gemini Nano” will also be updated.
Android users will soon be able to drag and drop AI-generated images directly into Gmail, Google Messages, and other apps. Meanwhile, YouTube users can tap “Ask This Video” to find specific information within her YouTube videos, he said.

Those who paid for the upgraded Gemini Advanced can also use the “Ask a question in this PDF” option, which allows them to get answers from the document without having to read every page. Gemini Advanced subscribers pay $19.99 per month for access to AI and receive 2 TB of storage and other Google One benefits.
Already, Gemini on Android, like other AI chatbots, can generate captions for photos, ask questions about the articles it's reading, and perform other generative AI tasks. But OpenAI spiced up Google's event by unveiling his GenAI model GPT-4o (the o stands for “omni”), which processes text, audio, and video, including what is seen by a phone's camera. . So, despite Gemini's built-in advantages, it will still have some competition on mobile devices.
Google says Gemini on Android's latest features will roll out to hundreds of millions of supported devices in the coming months. Over time, Gemini will also evolve to offer other suggestions related to what's on screen.
Meanwhile, Gemini Nano, the on-device foundation model on Android, will be upgraded to include multimodality. This means that it will be able to process not only text input, but also other means of processing information such as sights, sounds, and spoken words.
