Google recently announced a slew of new Gemini products at the Google I/O developer conference, and its Education suite is also getting AI enhancements.
The company is launching the Gemini add-on for educational institutions through Google Workspace. There's a basic plan called Gemini Education, available in English for educators and their students over 18, that allows users to tap Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet and chat with the AI.
Additionally, Gemini Education Premium offers all the features of the basic plan, plus features like AI-powered note taking and summarization in Meet, data loss prevention, and more. The company says the basic tier costs $24 per user per month, or $192 per year. The premium plan costs $36 per user per month or $288 per year.

The company said Gemini comes with new features focused on education. The AI can explain topics step-by-step, help students practice what they are learning, and utilize data from sources such as her OpenStax textbook from Rice University. Educators and instructors can use Gemini to create lesson plan templates, differentiate content for students, summarize research, personalize feedback, and more.
During Google I/O, the company also released LearnLM, a new set of generative AI models aimed at the education sector. The company says LearnLM has already been implemented in products such as YouTube, Google's Gemini app, Google Search, and Google Classroom. The company also announced that it will add AI-powered quizzes to academic videos on YouTube.
