ChatGpt rivals like Google's Gemini, Xai's Grok, and, to a lesser extent, Meta AI, are filling the gap in Openai's popular AI chatbot ChatGpt, according to a new report focusing on the consumer AI landscape from venture company Andreessen Horowitz.

This report presents two and a half years of data on the evolving consumer use of AI products in the fifth iteration.

And for the fifth time, 14 companies appeared on the list of top AI products: ChatGpt, Perplexity, Poe, Character AI, Midjourney, Leonardo, Veed, Cutout, ElevenLabs, Photoroom, Gamma, Quillbot, Civitai, and Hugging Face.

Companies represent a cross-section of how consumers use AI for general support, dating, image and video editing, audio generation, productivity and model hosting.

Five other companies have appeared in everything except the first report, and the companies, including Claude, Deepai, Vanitor AI, Pixelcut and Suno, represent common AI use, dating, image editing and music production.

For the first time in a series of reports, Google has won four spots in its list of top-generated AI Consumer web products with entries from Gemini, AI Studio, NotebookLM, and Google Labs. These products have their own domains, allowing them to track growth separately from one another.

Andreessen Horowitz said the report relies on data from third-party market intelligence companies, including SirseleWeb for web products, and Sensor Tower data for mobile app data.

Notable, No. The two-app Gemini closes the gap in the No. 1 app ChatGPT for mobile devices, but has almost half of its monthly active users. Naturally, Gemini's AI technology is highly adopted on Android, with almost 90% of its monthly active user base. On the web, Gemini came in second behind ChatGpt, with around 12% of ChatGpt visiting.

The company's AI Studio, a developer-oriented sandbox with Gemini models, sat at number 10 on the top 10 list of AI web products. Notebooklm was No. 13. Google's AI experiment destinations (Flow, Project Mariner, and DOPPL) ranked 39th.

The report shows that Meta AI and Grok are chasing after the top AI app ChatGpt.

Grok ranked fourth on the web and 23rd on mobile. This will grow rapidly considering that it has more than 20 million active users per month since the end of 2024 (first launched on X), and does not have a standalone app from the Stand-Alone app (first launched on X). When Grok 4 was released in July 2025, Grok also rose nearly 40%.

Meta's general assistant ranked 46th on the web, the same as in March, but no list of top mobile AI apps was created. In part, it was hampered by news that MetaAI is publishing several user posts online without informed consent.

Deepseek and Claude saw their growth flatten on mobile, with the former down 22% from their peak. On the web, Deepseek has seen an even sharper drop-off, falling more than 40% from its peak in February 2025. But stumped and Claude continued to grow.

Other Chinese AI manufacturers have created a top 20 on the web, including No. 9 Quark, which includes Alibaba's AI assistant (No. 47 on the mobile list). No. 12 Doubao and bytedance general LLM product (No. 4 on mobile). No. 17 Kimi, Moonshot AI chatbot. Each of these has a Chinese website and we see 75% of its traffic coming from China.

Seven companies on the web list have been developed in China, and have exported AI technologies globally from Deepseek, Hailuo, Kling, Seaart, Sutout Pro, Manus and Monica.

On mobile, 22 of the 50 top apps were developed in China, but only three were primarily used in China. Top players here include Meitu (Photo & Video Editors, BeautyPlus, Beautycam, Wink, and Airbrush), Bytedance (Doubao and Cici), Gauth, and Hypic.

This time, both the vibe coding startup and replica, which debuted on the main list this time, did not cut the list for the A16Z in March this year. (Websites built and published via Replit and through Lovable without a custom domain will appear under the traffic in Replit.app and Lovable.app, respectively.

Andreessen Horowitz took the time to call AI apps ringing AI apps to create a list of top AI apps such as Pixai, Bolt, Blackbox AI, Clipchamp, Getliner and more.

The company says the mobile list in this month's report already features more newcomers (14) than before. Because both app stores are cracking down on ChatGpt copycats and clones, allowing more original apps to find footing.
