More than four months after its debut in the US, Google has launched its purpose-built AI mobile app, Gemini, in India with support for nine Indian languages in addition to English.
Gemini mobile app in India now supports nine Indian languages – Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu — allowing users in India to type or speak in any of the supported languages and get AI assistance, the company said on Tuesday.
Gemini's mobile app also includes the option to access the paid Gemini Advanced experience, which is based on Gemini 1.5 Pro and provides a 1 million token context window for processing and understanding a wide range of information, from documents up to 1,500 pages long to complex data analysis tasks. Gemini Advanced also includes support for nine Indian languages available on the Gemini mobile app.
Android users can download the Gemini app from the Play Store. Gemini AI can also be opted into via the Google Assistant. In the coming weeks, iPhone users in India will also be able to access Gemini through the Google app.
At its I/O developer conference, Google showed off the expansion of its Gemini AI assistant to apps like Gmail, Google Messages, and YouTube, as well as deep integration into the Android operating system. Some of these experiences will roll out to supported devices in the coming months, but Google said it is rolling out Gemini to the English version of Google Messages starting today.
The Gemini mobile app, which first launched in the US in February, has since been launched in European markets including Germany, France, Italy, Sweden and the UK. In April, the app added support for languages including Japanese, Korean, Spanish and Portuguese to reach a wider audience.
