Google is rolling out a new update that will make it easier for users to find personalized shopping results, the company announced Wednesday. This new feature allows users to rate different products and get style recommendations when shopping for apparel, shoes, and accessories. The update comes as Google continues to compete with companies like Amazon and Walmart, which have released AI-powered features that rival Google's shopping features.
When you search for things like “men's polo shirts” on Google, you'll see a new section called “Recommended Styles,” where you can rate your options with thumbs up or thumbs down. You can also rate products using Tinder-like swipe gestures. If you are unsure about an item, please skip it. Rating the products you select allows Google to display and analyze personalized results.
If you can't find what you're looking for, Google gives you the option to rate more items and see more results. Google remembers your preferences, so when you search for men's polo shirts again, it'll recommend styles based on what you've liked in the past.
If you accidentally give a thumbs up to an item you don't like, or if you don't want to see personalized shopping results at all, tap the More menu next to the result and click the About this result panel.
This new feature is rolling out to all U.S. shoppers using mobile browsers and Google apps. Google hasn't said when it plans to expand this feature to more countries.
According to the company, people shop on Google more than 1 billion times a day, and more than 45 billion products appear in search results. Google revealed that it updates more than 2 billion product information every hour, including the latest information on pricing, availability, and shipping details.
