More than five years after its debut on Android, Google Maps has brought a speedometer and speed limit to iOS and CarPlay, in an effort to help iPhone users avoid speeding tickets while driving.
TechCrunch has exclusively learned that Google has begun rolling out speedometers and speed limits globally to iPhone users. When you launch navigation in Google Maps, your vehicle's speed will be displayed in miles or kilometers, depending on your region.
Earlier last week, TechCrunch spotted the new speed prevention feature appearing on Google Maps in India, and Google confirmed to us on Tuesday that the rollout will be global.
In the Google Maps app on your iPhone, tap your profile picture[設定]>[ナビゲーション]>[運転オプション]You can turn on the Speedometer and Speed Limit by going to . When enabled, the Speed Limit feature will change the color of your speed indicator to remind you to drive within the speed limits set in your area.
Google's support page states that the speedometer displays the vehicle's speed for “informational purposes only” – you should rely on your vehicle's speedometer to determine your actual driving speed.
Google launched the speedometer and speed limiter feature on Android in 2019. It was limited to select markets, but was expanded to more than 40 countries in May of the same year.
