As expected, this year's Google I/O 2024 conference featured a number of AI-related announcements, including the announcement of new features for Google TV.
Gemini, the company's family of generative AI models, powers smart TV operating systems to generate descriptions for movies and TV shows. Google says that if a description is missing on the home screen, AI will automatically fill in the description, so viewers don't have to wonder what the title is. It also translates the description into your audience's native language, making it easier for a wider audience to find your content.
AI-generated descriptions are also personalized based on the viewer's genre and actor preferences, so each person receives customized recommendations and summaries tailored to their specific interests.
Google TV's new features are part of a larger effort to improve the viewing experience and aim to help viewers discover movies and TV shows faster and spend less time searching. . We imagine that Google will not only iterate on this feature, but also leverage Gemini for other features, such as improving search functionality to answer more specific questions about content.
