Grok's grumpy, unfiltered AI buddies may often make headlines for their indifference, but that's the Grok 4, the latest model from Xai that drives the latest revenue for the app.
Elon Musk's Xai launched Grok 4 late July 9, and by Friday, July 11, Grok's total revenue for iOS had risen by a whopping 325% to 325%, from $99,000 the day before the release of the Grok 4 to $419,000, according to App Intelligence Firm Appfigures.

Grok continued to raise higher revenues for days after the launch of new models, and days after the launch of new models, exceeding $367,000 for several days.
Additionally, daily downloads of the Grok iOS app increased from 52,000 before the launch of Grok 4, up 279% to 197,000 on July 11th.
However, following the addition of Grok's AI buddies on July 14, the download and revenue jump was less noticeable. Curiosity about peers probably encouraged more installations, but despite the feature still available to “Super Groke” subscribers who pay $30 a month, it is not poised to become a key gold maker ship for the company.
Grok's global iOS downloads rose 40% the day after the peer was launched, reaching 171,000 installs daily, but revenues increased by just 9% to $337,000.
So, it is clear that there was an impact from the launch, but it is clearly smaller than the launch of the new AI model.

Given Grok's expensive new subscription offering, which was timed alongside the launch of the Grok 4, it's no surprise that a slight increase in the number of paid subscribers could significantly boost Grok's IOS revenue.
In addition to the Grok 4 and Grok 4 Heavy, the company has announced that it will also offer a subscription per $300 called SuperGrok Heavy, which is called the most expensive plan of all time. The plan will provide early access to subscribers to Grok 4 Heavy and other new features, but it is more expensive than comparable plans from other major AI providers, such as Openai, Google and Anthropic.
It's interesting to see this demand for Grok's subscription plans, despite AI initially sought the answer for Elon Musk's X post. Xai has since been working on this issue.

Interest in the new model also promoted Grok's rankings in the US app store shortly after its launch, reaching third and second place in the overall productivity category by July 12th.
This interest has declined slightly over the past week. The app is currently ranked 17th overall, but still second in productivity, but data shows.
AppFigures notes that this dataset is currently more comprehensive than data on Android devices, and therefore focuses on iOS data in this analysis. The latter will only be available until July 14th for the time being, as AppFigures models require more time to process Google Play data.
