Hellohive tackles employment discrimination as fairer hiring companies emerge

Resume and recruitment platform Hellohive seeks to help eliminate hiring bias by creating a virtual community that includes employers and people looking for new roles.

The company is part of a growing number of resume and skills apps to combat discrimination in the hiring process. Hellohive provides candidates from underrepresented or marginalized backgrounds the opportunity to connect with employers they may not otherwise have had the opportunity to meet. It also gives employers the opportunity to consider candidates seeking skills outside of where they went to school or where they have previously worked, allowing for a more holistic approach to recruitment, which in turn leads to a more diverse workforce. .

Hellohive, whose clients include Goldman Sachs, American Express and Morgan Stanley, hosts virtual networking programs between companies and candidates on its app. The company on Thursday announced a $3.4 million Series A round led by the Tisch family to help achieve its mission.

Byron Slosar, who founded the company in 2019, said he created the app after spending a year working in career services and recruiting as an undergraduate. “I felt that the technology industry had an opportunity to hire candidates from all diverse backgrounds and experiences, giving them a fair chance to succeed,” he told TechCrunch, adding that career success is He added that people shouldn't be defined by who they know or where they go to school. “We are committed to providing the same chance of success for anyone who is willing to put in the effort.”

He said fundraising was “always difficult” but took advantage of the opportunity to meet new people and make new connections.

Hellohive's holistic approach to adoption is especially important as companies shift away from DEI efforts.

The app provides job seekers with coaching services on resume formatting that attracts employers to the platform. Candidates will also complete a course model to prepare them for the recruitment process. You will then express your interest to the employer on the app and the recruitment process will officially begin.

“Hive’s technology unlocks a unique level of connection and understanding between all participants in the hiring conversation, not only modernizing the hiring process but humanizing it for everyone involved.” said Dan Levin, who works with Tom Tisch in the family office.

Pearl Fund and angel investors Anne Tenenbaum, Jeff Altman, and Rober Bell Wilkins also participated in the round.

Surosar said the funding will be used to expand the management team, enhance Hellohive's current technology and acquire new potential customers. The company has raised $9 million in funding to date.

“I look forward to seeing the impact that an inclusive and evolving, self-aware approach to diversity will have on the world,” Slosar said.
