Apple has finally released some of the Apple Intelligence features it announced at June's Worldwide Developers Conference.
After releasing Apple Intelligence features in developer beta and public beta over the past few months, the company has released these features to all users through iOS 18.1. Apple Intelligence was limited in the regions available in the initial beta, but by setting the language to US English, you can use the new AI features from anywhere except the EU and China.
Here's how to start using Apple Intelligence features.
Open the Settings app. Go to the Apple Intelligence & Siri menu. Tap the toggle to enable Apple Intelligence.
It will take some time for your iPhone to download the models related to Apple Intelligence and prepare your system for these features. You'll receive a notification when your iPhone is ready to use Apple Intelligence features.
At this time, Apple Intelligence is only compatible with iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPads and Macs powered by the M1 chip.
Available features
New Siri: Powered by Apple Intelligence, Siri now has new animations. Plus, whenever you're in a noisy place or in a meeting, you can double-tap the bar at the bottom to send a text message to Siri. Siri can handle confusing words, so if you say, “Hey Siri, set a timer for 10, or even 15 minutes,” she'll set a timer for 15 minutes. How-to questions: You can also ask Siri questions about Apple's system-related how-tos, such as “How do I record my screen?” Writing Tools: You can now reformat any text system-wide. You can use Proofread to check for spelling and grammatical errors, and Rewrite to rewrite selected text without significantly changing its meaning. You can also change the tone of your text with three options: Friendly, Professional, and Concise. You can summarize text to generate lists, takeaways, or tables. Mail app: The Mail app now shows you a one-line summary of your emails without having to open them. Apple Intelligence also shows important emails at the top of your inbox. Plus, you can respond to emails faster with AI-generated smart replies. Photos: You can now search for photos through natural language queries. Additionally, you can also create memories through prompts. Notification summaries: Apple Intelligence also provides summaries of some email and message notifications. Transcription of calls: Apple Intelligence now lets you record calls with the tap of a button. The recording will be saved to a new “Call Recordings” folder in the Notes app. Notes app audio support: You can also record and transcribe audio directly into the Notes app. Apple's AI suite also automatically generates summaries. Clean image: Remove objects from your photo by tapping on a pre-selected section. You can also select them by circling or drawing around them. Apple Intelligence doesn't yet have features such as photos, emojis, image playgrounds, or the ability to remove unwanted objects in ChatGPT interactions. There is no clear timeline for when these features can be tested.
