IceBlock is an iPhone app that allows users to anonymously report sightings of US immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) agents, robbing the rocket at one of the coveted top spots in Apple's US app store rankings. Results: Criticism from US Attorney General Pam Bondi helped them get there.
According to CNN, Ice Block has around 20,000 users, mostly in Los Angeles, and ice attacks have become a commonplace in recent weeks. Following Bondi's remarks late Monday, the app became a virus overnight. As of Tuesday afternoon, the app has now become one of the most downloaded free iPhone apps in the US.
Ice blocks allow users to legally share information about where ice is seen within a 5-mile radius of that location. The app also sends notifications when an ice agent is spotted nearby at a user's location.
The app does not collect or store user data that TechCrunch has verified by analyzing the app's network traffic as part of its testing.
