Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced Wednesday that Threads is rolling out a redesign to keep feeds on the home screen. The redesign now allows you to quickly swipe between different feeds, just like in X.
The change is rolling out on Android on Wednesday and is expected to launch on iOS in the coming days.
“You can now swipe to follow and easily swipe between custom feeds,” Mosseri said in the announcement. “This may seem like a small change, but it should make navigating the app much easier.”
The latest features build on updates Threads has rolled out over the past two weeks. A few days ago, the social network started testing an option that would allow users to choose For You, Following, or a custom feed as their default. This test has been a long time coming, as users have been requesting the option to set the feeds they follow as the default since Threads launched last year.
Additionally, Threads rolled out custom feeds last week, allowing users to curate feeds based on specific topics or specific user profiles. Additionally, in response to complaints from users who wanted less content from people they don't follow, the app's “For You” algorithmic feed now shows more content from people they follow.
Threads is also working on features similar to Bluesky's “Starter Pack.” This is a curated list of recommended users to follow when they first join the app.
All of these changes come as Meta begins to view Decentralized X's competitor Bluesky as a serious threat. Meta has been quick to update Threads as many X users migrate to Bluesky, which recently surpassed 20 million users.
The social network is trying to appease users and responding to user feedback in order to stop them from moving to Bluesky, which is catching up with Threads when it comes to daily active users.
