Instacart announced Wednesday that Chief Business Officer Chris Rogers has been appointed as the company's new CEO. The appointment will take effect on August 15th. Rogers will also be taking part in the Instacart board of directors.
The announcement comes weeks after Instacart CEO Fidji Simo shared that she will step down to join Openai as CEO of the application. Shimo will chair the Instacart board of directors.
In his role as Chief Business Officer, Rogers oversaw Instacart retailer relationships and expansion, advertising sales and R&D, partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, Instacart business and Instacart Health.
Rogers joined Instacart for nearly 11 years at Apple and served as managing director for Apple Canada. He began his gambling career with Proctor and led a relationship with Canada's largest national grocery retailer, says Instacart.
“Instacart sits at the heart of how people shop, eat and care for their families. It has always been the one that inspires me the most about our mission,” Rogers said in a press release. “With our partners, we are changing the future of grocery shopping, but more importantly, we help people solve real and everyday needs. We have a world-class team, deep partnerships, key technologies and a bold vision for the future.
In a blog post, Rogers said Instacart's vision remains the same under his leadership, and the company will continue to focus on “an unwavering commitment to growing retailers and branded pie.” He also said Instacart will work to provide more flexible revenue opportunities on its platform.
In a letter to employees, Shimo said Rogers is playing a key role in shaping Instacart and that she will work with him for the next few months to allow for a smooth transition.
“We chose Chris because the company needs a leader who has a deep understanding of all of its partners, has a huge operating experience and can mobilize teams around our vision,” Shimo wrote. “Chris knows the company. He shaped it. And Chris knows to move our mission forward with belief, care and ambition. We couldn't be excited to step into the CEO role and lead Instacart's next stage of growth.”
