Instagram is working on a feature called “Picks” that aims to help users find common interests. Meta owned social networks have confirmed with TechCrunch that the pick is an internal prototype and has not been externally tested.
This feature was first discovered by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi. AlessandroPaluzzi often finds unreleased features while still in development.
According to screenshots shared by Paluzzi, people choose their favorite movies, books, TV shows, games, music, or “Picks.” Instagram finds duplicates with friends who chose the same thing.
Although Instagram does not share details about the feature, the company believes it sees it as a way for users to more personally connect with friends and spark conversations about shared interests.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri said earlier this year that social networks will focus on creativity and connection in 2025.
Of course, not everyone is welcoming the pick as it adds yet another feature to an already overcrowded app. Instagram is facing backlash following the launch of Instagram Maps, with many users saying they don't want the feature in the first place.
Like other features in development, it is unclear when or if Instagram plans to officially unfold.
