Meta announced Wednesday that it is updating its broadcast channel feature on Instagram to make it easier for creators to collaborate with their followers.
Previously, viewers couldn't respond to creators' posts on broadcast channels and were limited to emoji reactions. Now, the company is giving creators the option to let users reply to their own posts and respond to other users' responses. Additionally, creators can now share prompts to start conversations within their channels.
When Meta launched a broadcast channel on Instagram last year, the company pitched it as a way for creators to share public, one-to-many messages with their followers. Broadcast channels were seen as a one-way communication method for creators to share quick announcements without crowding the space with user replies. These changes change the original vision for the feature.

These new changes could make your broadcast channel more similar to the comments section of an Instagram post. However, Mehta says all replies are grouped under messages to keep things organized.
It's worth noting that creators can choose to leave replies turned off. If you want to turn on replies, tap the channel name, select Channel Controls, and tap the option to “Allow members to reply to messages.”
When it comes to new prompts, creators can give their followers something to respond to. For example, you can ask your followers to share their restaurant recommendations in a particular city or ask them what they're grateful for that day.

Users can respond to creator prompts with photos or text for up to 24 hours. You can also “like” other users' reactions.
In addition to the two new changes, Meta provides creators with access to new metrics to help them understand how their broadcast channel content is performing. Meta also suggests ways to enhance your channel with personalized guidance.
If creators are looking to increase engagement, the app could encourage them to message more often or send behind-the-scenes photos.
