Linktree deploys a suite of monetization features for creators

Linktree is launching a set of new features aimed at helping creators make more money from the platform. New tools include the ability to sell courses, get them from brand sponsor links, and build shop-ready storefronts.

The launch of the new monetization feature will help Linktree stand out among similar platforms such as Beacons and Shorby, as it expands Linktree's simple link-in bioservice.

This new feature also allows Linktree to compete with creator monetization platforms like Patreon.

The company is partnering with Kajabi to enable users to build and sell courses directly on Linktree. New features allow creators to monetize their expertise. For example, fitness trainers can share workout programs and musicians can teach crafts through courses. Creators can set a price for the course and start earning through stripe integration.

Linktree also makes it easy for creators to sell digital products such as e-books, templates, and guides. Linktree already allows creators to do so, but it was possible through a partnership with Sendowl. Currently, creators can sell digital products directly through Linktree without the involvement of third parties. This means that Linktree will be able to claim take rates for digital products sold through the platform. These rates are based on the Linktree plan you are using.

The feature was launched a year after Patreon introduced the ability for creators to sell one-time digital products. Similar to courses, you can price digital products in Link Tree.

“There's something that creators and many people around the world share, and there's something to be taught,” Linktree CEO Alex Zaccaria told TechCrunch. “We want it to be much more accessible.”

Additionally, everyone in the US in Linktree can now build a shop to earn commissions on products. Shops can earn commissions from brands such as Target, Amazon, Lululemon, and Revolve. Alternatively, creators can choose to add affiliate links directly to their LinkTree account.

Regarding the new sponsored link feature, brands can pay creators directly for the link tree space. For example, creators can receive payments when their followers subscribe to Hulu via the link tree. These links are clearly labelled “sponsors.”

“Creators will see these sponsored links that they can place in the link tree,” Zaccharia said. “Currently they are paid per attribution or conversion, but they also expand to the cost per clicked and per impression, so not just the affiliate type, but there are native ads on Linktree.”

Linktree has also launched “Rewards.” This is a new incentive program that offers creator perks like bonus commissions when you reach a certain milestone. The program could lead to direct brand collaboration, the company noted.

All creators of Linktree will have access to a new “wallet” that houses all the income they earn from these features, Zaccaria said.

“It all fell into one wallet,” he said. “No matter what you do with every course, we curate digital products, things, sponsored links to link tree shops. Wallets are a new feature that has been in beta for a while.

Linktree said the feature announced Wednesday will help its user base of over 70 million users make a sustainable income. Creators can access all new monetization features either in the app or on the web by accessing the new “Acquisition” section of the link tree.
