MacPaw, the developer of popular Mac and iOS apps, has released a new iPhone app called CleanMyPhone. This helps users delete duplicate photos and other unnecessary images to free up storage.
The app is divided into three main tabs: Organize, Organize, and Network. Declutter detects and scans your photo library on your local device to find duplicates, screenshots, screen recordings, TikTok videos, app folders, and blurry images. By default, all images are selected to be cleaned with her one tap. However, you can deselect some images before cleaning your photo library.
Organize scans photos from the past 7 days, past 30 days, or a custom range. Once the scan is complete, you will see categories such as pets, travel, portraits, and food. You can add all these photos to a new folder.
When you tap on a category, you'll see similar and unique options. Similar groups together nearly identical shots so you can delete one or the other. In our testing, we found that photos with different filters and styles are also grouped together. Therefore, it's a good idea to review some of your grouped photos before cleaning them. You may find some images in the “Unique” category that you can delete.
If you don't want the app to scan certain images, you can mark them as sensitive. All these images will be ignored the next time the app performs a scan.
This app also has a network speed test for some reason. Overall it's a useful tool, but this app feels like a mismatch. The company said it included this feature to provide a “comprehensive utility similar to CleanMyMac,” the company's Mac app for freeing up storage. In recent years, CleanMyMac has become an all-in-one utility app with several maintenance and security tools.
The free version of CleanMyPhone has certain limitations, such as being able to only access your organization's “Other” category and not having the ability to mark content as sensitive. To unlock these features, users can pay an annual fee of $24.99. The company said it aims to release a one-time fee later this year.
MacPaw is also the company behind Setapp, a macOS and iOS app subscription service. Earlier this month, MacPaw announced that it plans to release a Setapp alternative app store on iOS, making it one of the first companies to publicly adopt Apple's DMA rule changes.
