Mark Zuckerberg returns to “OG Facebook” in 2025

META CEO's Mark Zuckerberg has been working on “Return to OG Facebook” as part of the major goal of 2025 in the fourth quarter revenue call on Wednesday. The company lacked details about what specific changes are in the store, but the meta is desperately needing young Facebook users to maintain themselves for the next generation. Is clear.

When asked about the “OG Facebook” plan, Zuckerberg replied that it was one of the priority areas of this year's meta, planning to spend time investing.

“I think there are many opportunities to make [Facebook] He is more culturally influential than today. ”

Executives warned investors that these changes could require some trade -off in terms of “maximizing the near future business results”. This is a signal that revenue can be affected. He said that the product change will begin to develop within six months.

“I think some of these will return to the method originally used at the time,” Zuckerberg said, but he applied his lips firmly in other details.

In particular, the declining interest in Facebook among young people is becoming a problem for high -tech giants.

According to an EMARKETER survey released last August, Gen Z users, 18 to 24, spent a lot of time in Tiktok, followed by Instagram and Snapchat. In fact, it is twice as much as the US total population. Meanwhile, a Pew Research survey in 2024 revealed that the U.S. teen (13-17) Facebook had dropped sharply from 71 % from 2014 to 2015 to only 33 %.

In many cases, there is no appeal to Gen Z on the aspect of Facebook's social networking. It is a more practical function like Facebook Marketplace.

Meta has long recognized these issues, and has begun redesign social networks in October 2024, focusing on local communities information, videos, and Facebook groups.

The company is currently aiming to build a Facebook product in 2025 to build it based on these changes, but the ability to compete with GEN Z's priority app is uncertain.

In addition, GEN Z users have sent a strong signal that Tiktok is prohibited in the United States instead of returning to Meta's platform, and is ready to proceed from the meta. Before the ban on Tik, and while it was temporarily enforced.

It may be difficult for Facebook to always attract young users as Facebook returns to the “OG” roots. The company was trying to relapse its unique exclusiveness by launching a Facebook aspect Campus in 2020, which was only provided to college and university students in 2020. One and a half years later after failing to take off, the effort was closed.

Meta has also used other services such as online dates to attract new users who are almost unsuccessful.

On the other hand, the new social network is built on an open social web equipped with protocols such as ActivityPub used by Mastodon. Controlled platform owned by Big Tech. As these networks grow, it becomes a competition for efforts like “OG Facebook”.

Meta has been working to protect investors for many years from the decrease in Facebook.

In the fourth quarter of 2019, Meta (then called Facebook at the time) introduced new statistics for families' daily active people and their monthly active people. After that, in the first quarter of 2024, Meta supported the app metrics family and took measures to keep the daily active active users in a quarterly report, so that the distance from the metrics for each app. I did it.

At the time, the meta stated that Meta intended to show the number of people involved not only in Facebook and messenger but also in all products. Perhaps it was also useful for another purpose. It is to hide the decline of Facebook in the larger “family” app group in META.
