Meta AI is one of the most used AI assistants in the world, with “almost” 500 million monthly active users, Mark Zuckerberg said Wednesday at Meta Connect 2024. Zuckerberg said Meta AI is on track to become the most used assistant in the world.
“We're at almost 500 million monthly activities, and we're not yet launched in some of the biggest countries,” Zuckerberg said at the event, noting that the service has not yet launched in the EU.
Meta has previously said it has more than 400 million monthly users globally. The company's CFO Susan Lee said during the company's Q2 2024 conference call that India is Meta AI's largest market, in large part due to WhatsApp, which has more than 500 million users in the country.
By comparison, OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot has over 200 million weekly users.
Meta today announced a new family of models called Llama 3.2 with new multimodal capabilities. The company is also releasing the Llama 3.2 1B and 3B lightweight models in Europe, which were not trained on European user data.
At the event, Meta also announced that it will add new celebrity voices and lip-sync translation capabilities to Meta AI. The company also extended its generative AI-powered “Imagine” feature to Facebook, Instagram and Messenger, which now lets users create photos from prompts. Additionally, Meta AI can understand photos and provide answers or edit them.
