A new iOS app called Wayther streamlines road trip planning by providing real-time road conditions and weather forecasts along your route. Created by indie developer Axel Le Pennec, Wayther provides weather forecasts along your route for up to 10 days in advance.
Le Pennec, who has been developing iOS apps since 2013, told TechCrunch that he got the idea for Weather after adding a weather forecast feature to Skipper, a digital boat logbook app.
“In addition to the ability to record boat trips with Skipper, we also wanted to add new features that would allow users to plan future trips and check the weather along the route,” says Le Pennec. “We realized this would be a useful feature for the app, but it could also have been an idea for another app that could be used by a wider audience, such as truckers or travelers.”
So Le Penec decided to found Wayther.

Wayther allows you to choose different routes and adjust departure or arrival times to find the best time slot for a safe and enjoyable trip. The idea behind the app is to eliminate the need to enter multiple locations into a weather app when planning a road trip and determining when severe weather is likely to occur.
Get alerts for severe weather, low visibility and nighttime driving conditions. Plus, plan your trip for scenic times like sunrise or sunset.
Once you enter your start and destination into the app, you can choose from three routes. Wayther will provide you with detailed weather forecasts for various points along your route. The app's interactive map gives you an overview of your trip and a detailed timeline.
The app works in all countries where Apple Weather is available and supports both metric and imperial units. Wayther isn't just for car trips, but can also be used for motorcycles, RVs, trucks, buses, and bicycles.

Le Pennec told TechCrunch that this is just the first version of the app, with a host of other features planned, including the ability to add stops, view route history, save favorites, see live updates while driving, etc. Le Pennec is also awaiting approval from Apple to develop a CarPlay app, and is working on improving OS integration with widgets, Live Activity, and Siri Shortcuts.
Additionally, Le Penec would like to make the app available in more languages, including French, German, Spanish and Italian.
Wayther offers a free trial with three free rides, after which you can choose from $1.99 weekly, $2.99 monthly, or $14.99 annual plans.
