Meta's Threads social network recently passed the 150 million monthly user mark, and the company isn't slowing down its growth engine. To increase engagement, the social media giant is running a limited-time bonus program for Threads.
Over the past few days, many accounts have posted about this program. The company confirmed to TechCrunch a limited-time invite-only program for creators that it began testing in March. Mehta said there will be “individual” bonus requirements for invited creators. For now, the program is limited to creators in the United States, but if successful, the company said it may expand the program to other regions.
Meta says on its support page that invited creators must create a public thread profile and follow Instagram's Creator Incentives Terms and Instagram's Bonus Rules. The company specified that thread post (view) performance and number of posts are part of the parameters for creators to receive bonuses.
There are also specific guidelines for what kind of posts are eligible for the bonus program.
For example, one of the requirements states that posts must receive at least 2,500 views. Apart from that, threaded posts that contain copyrighted material, do not contain text, or have increased views will not be eligible for the bonus. Meta added that content should not have a watermark from another platform such as TikTok or YouTube. Additionally, the content posted must not be about brand partnerships.
Creators can see their earnings in their professional dashboard and may be required to earn a minimum amount to receive payment.
“In some cases, you may need to earn a minimum amount to receive a bonus payment. If the minimum amount is not reached, there will be no bonus payment, but you may be invited to participate in another bonus opportunity in the future. ” explains the company.
The program could encourage Instagram users with many followers to post in threads, which could result in some of their followers being transplanted as well. Instagram already shows suggested threads on the app. If your favorite creator is posting on the app, users may want to check out her Meta's X competitors more often.
The new bonus program is also a great opportunity for creators looking to build an audience on a new platform. However, the financial benefits may be temporary, as Meta does not detail any long-term plans for creators to monetize their threads.
