Microsoft announced on Wednesday that its AI-powered Designer app is officially out of preview and available to all iOS and Android users. The Canva-like app uses text prompts to generate images and designs to create stickers, greeting cards, invitations, collages, and more.
Designer is currently accessible in over 80 languages on the web, as a free mobile app, and as a Windows app.
The app features “prompt templates” designed to jump-start the creative process. Templates include styles and instructions that you can experiment with and customize, and you can share templates with others so you can build on each other's ideas.
In addition to stickers, you can use text prompts to create emojis, clip art, wallpapers, monograms, avatars, and more.
Designer also allows you to use AI to edit and restyle your images: for example, you can upload a selfie, choose from a set of styles, and write in any additional details you need to transform your photo.

Soon, Designer will add a “background replacement” feature that will allow you to transform images using text prompts.
With the release of the standalone Designer app, Microsoft also announced that it will bring the service to apps like Word and PowerPoint through Copilot. Users with a Copilot Pro subscription can create images and designs in their workflows. Soon, users will have the option in Word to create document banners based on the document's content.
As part of Wednesday's announcement, Microsoft revealed that Microsoft Photos on Windows 11 will be more tightly integrated with Designer. Users can now use AI to edit photos without leaving the Photos app. Actions like erasing objects, removing backgrounds, and automatically cropping pictures can now be performed directly within the app.
