Microsoft's Copilot, an AI-powered generative tool that can generate text and answer specific questions, is now available as an in-app chatbot for instant messaging app Telegram.
Currently in beta, Copilot for Telegram allows you to talk to an AI chatbot just like you would in a normal one-on-one conversation with a friend, and can answer a wide range of questions, from general questions like “What movie should I watch?” to questions like “What baseball game is on right now?”
The bot can be accessed by searching the username @CopilotOfficialBot and is free for Telegram users and available on both mobile and desktop, but note that you will need a phone number.
Microsoft has introduced Copilot into several of its own products, including Microsoft 365, Teams, and its AI-first hardware, the Copilot+ PC. Copilot's expansion into third-party services like Telegram is noteworthy and could be a sign that Microsoft wants to bring its AI chatbot to other social apps as well.
Other companies integrating AI chatbots into their messaging platforms include Meta, which recently confirmed it's testing Meta AI across Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp. Google's Gemini rivals Copilot in leveraging generative AI within Google Messages on Android devices, while Snapchat uses ChatGPT to power an AI chatbot that can respond to Snaps.
