WhatsApp is launching new AI features that allow users to reposition, proofread or adjust the tone of their messages, the meta-owned company announced Wednesday.
A new feature called “Writing Help” uses Meta's private processing technology. This allows users to receive responses generated by Meta or WhatsApp reading the original message or the proposed rewrite and receiving AI-generated responses. This means that even when people use the new tools, messages on the platform remain private.
Writing help allows users to get AI-generated suggestions that rewrite messages in professional, entertaining, collaborative, or paraphrased ways.
WhatsApp introduced the feature to product images that display the user's original message. “Don't leave dirty socks on the sofa.” AI has found that “Don't make the sofa a sock cemetery,” “Don't break the news,” and “Socks are cooled on the sofa.

With this launch, WhatsApp may want to use in-app technology when drafting messages rather than external tools like ChatGpt.
Of course, not everyone prefers new features, as users are more likely to prefer authentic personal conversations with friends and family than AI-generated messages. Using AI to rewrite emails is one thing. Using it to send a message to your grandma is another thing.
According to WhatsApp, users can access new features by tapping on the new pencil icon that appears when drafting a message to the app.
