ChatGpt's impressive growth as a consumer app continues, the company says, as chatbots are on track to hit 700 million weeks of active users this week.
The app had reached 500 million active users as of the end of March, pointed out in an X post by Nick Turley, VP of Openai and ChatGpt's app head. He said the app has grown four times more than last year.
“Every day, people and teams learn, create and solve more difficult problems. A big week ago. I'm grateful for the mission that made chat GPT more convenient and everyone can benefit from AI,” he posted.
The app has grown in popularity after OpenAI launched an upgraded image generation feature with a GPT-4 model in March. In early April, the company's COO, Brad LightCap, said that over 130 million users had created over 700 million images in just a few days since its launch.
The company has also seen an increase in subscribers. Last week, LightCap said ChatGpt had 5 million paid business users from 3 million in June.
A recent report noted that Market Intelligence Farm's Sensor Tower uses ChatGPT on average for more than 12 days a month on Google and X. The report also states that in H1 2025, users spent an average of 16 minutes per day on the app.
