Pinterest today announced that a tool to filter searches by different body types has officially rolled out to users in the United States. The platform began experimenting with the feature last year and is currently testing it in Canada.
As part of today's launch, Pinterest's search landing page now features size-inclusive brands like Eloquii, Ganni, Mara Hoffman, Osei Duro, Gia/Irl, and more.
To use this feature, users type in the search bar, select the “Body Type” option, and four different body types appear at the top of the results page. If the user selects the same option twice, the body type selection can be saved to the device.
Pinterest's body type range feature is currently only available for women's fashion and wedding ideas. Sabrina Ellis, chief product officer at Pinterest, tested this feature and found that users who used the tool had a 66% higher engagement rate per session.
The company says it plans to expand into men's fashion later this year.
This tool is powered by Pinterest's patent-pending computer vision technology. The technology was released last year and uses shape, size, and morphology to identify different body types from the more than 3.5 billion images on the platform. Pinterest also has comprehensive tools to help more users feel represented on the platform, including a range of skin tones and hair patterns.
