Samsung Medicine, the medical devices division of Samsung Electronics that specializes in developing diagnostic imaging equipment, on Wednesday acquired Sonio, a Paris-based startup that develops AI-powered software for ultrasound workflows, for approximately $92.7 million. announced plans to acquire the company for 126 billion won). ).

The French startup's AI assistant aims to help obstetricians and gynecologists evaluate and document ultrasound exams, and has received U.S. regulatory clearance (FDA 510) for Sonio Detect, a product that uses deep learning algorithms. Samsung Medicine said Sonio's software will help bring better AI-driven image processing workflows to market. Samsung Electronics, which owns 68.45% of the medical equipment division, acquired Medison in 2011 for $22 million.

Samsung said in a statement that Sonio will remain an independent company and continue to grow commercially and offer products and services in France.

Co-founded in 2020 by Cecile Brossett (CEO) and Remi Besson (CSO), Sonio recently secured $14 million in Series A led by Cross Border Impact Ventures in August 2023.
