Spotify is enhancing the audiobook experience for premium users through three new experiments: the ability to add video clips, author pages, and visuals that appear while users listen. These efforts are part of Spotify's commitment to improving our audiobook offering and bringing listeners closer to their favorite authors and stories.
One of the notable features being introduced is the option for authors or publishers to submit short videos of up to 30 seconds for audiobooks. Videos can include anything from snippets of interviews to behind-the-scenes footage of the audio recording process and even messages from the author.
The introduction of video clips for audiobooks aligns with Spotify's continued investment in the format, as video consumption on the platform has grown in popularity, particularly with the launch of music videos and video podcasts. During a recent earnings call, CEO Daniel Ek hinted that the company plans to expand its video services.

Spotify is also experimenting with audiobook visuals. The feature, called “Follow Among,” aims to provide a more immersive experience where users feel like they're flipping through a book that includes illustrations, photos, and graphics. These visuals appear on your screen where a book cover would normally appear. This is located in the “Extras” section and has timestamps that allow users to jump to specific chapters.
Additionally, the platform is piloting “author pages,” which build on Spotify's previously launched artist pages. These dedicated profiles display an author's biography, work, and other relevant information, making it easy for users to explore an author's entire catalog.
These tests are currently being conducted for premium listeners in all markets where Spotify Audiobooks is available, including the US, UK, Australia, Canada, France, Belgium, Ireland, New Zealand, Netherlands, and Luxembourg.
Accessible only to selected authors and publishers and currently mobile only.
