It's been more than two years since ChatGpt burst on the scene. Soon after that, almost all email apps appeared to have integrated AI-powered email writing and summaries. We also introduced AI-powered search to quickly sift your inbox. Superhuman is currently using AI to tackle one of the main issues with email: classification.
Google was one of the first companies to focus on using the Inbox Email client to put email into different brackets, but in 2019 the company closed it. Since then, various clients, including Gmail's native clients, have tried to replicate it. Fee.
Superhuman is currently trying to do something similar with a new automatic labeling feature that automatically assigns labels such as marketing, pitch, social, news, and more to emails related to these fields. Additionally, you can create prompts to create your own new labels. Email clients are focused on getting emails through as quickly as possible, so if you feel you don't need to view emails from that category, you can also automate certain labels.
“One thing I heard from customers last year is the growing number of cold emails that contain marketing and spam. They asked why superhumans aren't filtering these emails. At the time, I was there. They relied on spam filtering in Gmail and Outlook, but that didn't work. So we decided to put the issues into our own hands for classification with this label iteration.” , Superhuman CEO Rahul Vohra told TechCrunch over the phone.
One of the features of Auto Labels at startup is that you cannot edit the prompts to create categories. This means that if you feel that your current prompt is not working well and you exclude some emails that you think are automatically classified, you will need to create a new prompt.
This app allows you to create split-inboxes based on filters you set, such as emails containing specific subjects and emails from specific domain names. You can now also create a new split-inbox using one of the custom labels and an existing filter.
Superhuman also has enhanced reminder functionality. You could already snooze the email and then surface it later. But now, when you reply to a specific email asking someone to respond, the app will automatically surface the email after a defined time. If there is no response, you can change it through the settings. This feature also includes an AI-driven, automatic drafting feature that automatically drafts voice follow-up, keeping in mind the conversation context and the tone of the reply. This is a superhuman version of “soft nudge” for the recipient.

Vohra told TechCrunch that the next step for the company is to integrate the various knowledge bases that represent you, including your website and your personal wiki. The app already has access to your schedule via the calendar.
With all this context in mind, in the future Superhuman AI can do automatic draft reply to emails that need to be responded, and if you feel comfortable, you can send a reply automatically . For example, you might reply to someone requesting a meeting with a potential time slot.
Superhuman also aims to build IFTTT style (if you think) workflows in conjunction with prompts. For example, if you receive an email about a recruitment, you can set up a reply template via an AI prompt and forward the email to the recruitment department if you meet certain criteria.

It's a long way to go for an email client to automatically reply to emails, but classification is a nuisance problem that can be solved today. The promised new label feature also looks convenient as long as you place your emails accurately in different buckets.
