CJ Logistics builds “Logistics 4.0” solution on Ericsson 5G

Global logistics company CJ Logistics has partnered with Ericsson to deploy the first full-scale commercial private 5G network in the logistics sector.

The new network, located in Icheon, South Korea, will help the company receive, sort and classify goods, and coordinate loading and unloading processes.

The company, which has 400 warehouse facilities in South Korea alone and an additional 40 centers around the world, says scalability and ease of deployment were factors in choosing the right communications provider.

According to the company, productivity at the Ichiri Center has improved by 20% since its introduction.

Most of the time savings come from reduced time spent on the picking process, where products are taken off the shelf and prepared for shipment.

Ericsson Private 5G Network is helping CJ Logistics implement “Logistics 4.0” technology, deploy Internet of Things devices, and leverage AI to increase productivity in distribution centers.

“Connectivity serves as the backbone, enabling seamless communication, data exchange, and coordination between the various devices, systems, and parties involved in complex operations,” said Sangcheon Ryu, CIO of CJ Logistics.

“The availability of dedicated industry spectrum ensures network reliability and performance, making private 5G a strategic choice for organizations.”
