Apple's WWDC 2024 keynote was packed with content, with many important new features announced for iOS 18. One of the more interesting additions was “Tap to Cash,” which, as the name suggests, lets you make payments by tapping two iPhones together.
As the name suggests, this feature is essentially a spinoff of Apple Pay's long-standing Tap to Pay feature. Similarly, this new feature is likely to use the device's NFC capabilities. Apple has said that this feature will allow you to send money without sharing any personal information, which is a nice privacy boost.
This isn't the first time Apple has brought this feature to market, but it raises the question of how this feature will ultimately impact standalone payment devices/platforms like Square.
The company also announced the ability to customize icons and a new password manager app.
