According to new data from App Intelligence Provider Appfigures, even when App Store downloads are growing, Elon Musk X is struggling with Android devices regarding new installations. In July 2025, Google Play X downloads fell significantly as new installs fell 44% year-on-year, even if iOS downloads increased by 15%.
This sudden drop in installations has lowered the overall average for X, with a 26% drop in total mobile download downloads compared to the previous year in July. This is slightly better than the previous month, when total downloads fell 35% thanks to a sudden drop in Android downloads.

The company did not speculate about what is causing a decline in Android devices beyond what suggests that Android's X app is known to be a painful place for the company. Recently, X Head of Nikitavia's product known for its growth in hacking teen social apps such as Gas and TBH suggests that X is trying to address Android issues.
In a platform post, Bier announced that X is hiring “Android Dream Team” to rebuild the X Android app. He recently posted that he had just seen a record week for the iOS app for X when it came to installations.

It's not clear where the Android users of X are heading. Rival Bluesky has slowed growth in recent months, with the Google Play app pulling out just 119,000 downloads in July. It's not in the millions who install X on iOS or Android every month. However, as Meta's daily active users are keeping up to X on their mobile devices, it's likely that some Android users will be accounted for there.
In addition to slower Google Play installations, X is struggling to increase subscription revenue, Appfigures discovered.
In July, X captured net revenues of $16.9 million, up from $18.8 million that it acquired in March 2025. However, it rose slightly from the $16.8 million that occurred in June. (Of course, X is getting a large portion of its overall revenue from ads, rather than from premium in-app subscriptions.)
The decline in demand for X on Android is supposed to partially denounce the decline in revenue, but X also could be that its customers are losing customers to Grok. The latter has its own standalone app that attracts people who are purchasing X subscriptions, primarily for AI perks.
