Just two years after its launch as a competitor on Twitter (now X), Meta's threads have surpassed 400 million active users (MAUS) per month.
“A few weeks ago [there are] Over 400 million people are active on threads every month,” Moseli wrote. “It's been quite a ride over the last two years. It started out as a silly idea to compete with Twitter and evolved into a meaningful platform that encourages public exchange of perspectives. I'm grateful to everyone who has created this place today. There's so much to do from our side.
The new milestone means that threads can add 50 million users per month in the last quarter as Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced in the last week of April that the platform reached over 350 million active users per month.
Meanwhile, X is north of 600 million active users, according to a previous statement made by former CEO Linda Yaccarino.
Recent data from SimserWeb in Market Intelligence Provider showed that threads are approaching daily app users of X on mobile devices. In June 2025, Threads mobile app for iOS and Android saw 115.1 million active users every day, an increase of 127.8% compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, X has reached 132 million active users, reflecting a 15.2% decline from the previous year.
However, SimserWeb found X's global daily web visits far ahead of threads, as it saw 158 million web visits worldwide in June and only 6.9 million on threads.
Thread growth comes as many platforms have been shipped over the past year, as many new features have been shipped over the past year, including DMS, Fediverse integration, custom feeds, and AI enhancements.
