Following several complaints about the algorithm, Meta X competitor Instagram Threads is making changes to allow you to see more content from people you follow in your algorithm feed.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri said in a thread that the social network has adjusted its algorithm to show less content from accounts it doesn't follow.
“We're rebalancing our rankings to prioritize content from people you follow. That means starting today, we'll see less recommended content from accounts you don't follow and more content from people you follow. You will see more posts from accounts you follow,” Mosseri wrote in the post.
He warned that creators could experience reduced reach if they were “unconnected.”
“Creators should see their unconnected reach decrease and their connected reach increase. This is definitely a work in progress, as their ability to reach their followers and their overall It's hard to balance engagement, but please be patient, be grateful, and keep giving feedback,” Mosseri added.
The social network rolled out a feature globally earlier this week that allows users to create custom feeds, giving users more control over what kind of content they see. Apart from these custom feeds, Threads has a dedicated follow feed, but the app defaults to an algorithmic For You feed controlled by Meta.
With over 20 million users, Meta is making these changes quickly as more and more users head to Bluesky. According to market intelligence firm SimilarWeb, Threads has more than 275 million monthly active users, and while there is a big discrepancy in terms of numbers, Bluesky has a competitive daily active user count compared to Threads. It is said that there is.
