The search interface for Instagram Threads, Meta's X competitor, has been improved, the company announced on Monday. The app offers a meta-run alternative to Elon Musk's You can filter your search by range.
This is not as comprehensive as the advanced search in X. Currently, users can refine their queries by language, keywords, exact phrases, negative words, hashtags, and more. However, it makes it easier for Threads users to find specific posts. Search in Threads is also now comparable to search in Bluesky, and users can also use advanced queries to filter their searches by user profile, date range, and more. However, the Bluesky app itself does not currently display all filtering options in its user interface.
Prior to this latest update, thread search was pretty basic. You can also search by keyword, but those results can only be filtered by two options: “Top” for the posts with the most engagement, or “Recent” for the most recent posts.
The new search feature will be available to users around the world in the coming weeks, the Threads account said in a new post.
In recent days, Meta has been rapidly releasing new features to counter threats from social networking startup Bluesky, another X alternative that is rapidly gaining adoption. As of September, Bluesky had over 9 million users, but due to various policy changes such as owner Elon Musk's political leanings and plans to change the blocking system That number skyrocketed in the weeks following the US election, as the US moved away from X. Allow AI companies to train using data from X number of users. Currently, Bluesky claims to have around 24 million users.
To combat Bluesky's chances, Meta's Threads has released new features including the ability for users to choose their own default feeds, design changes to make it easier to navigate between feeds, and updated algorithms. Bluesky has also been seen developing its own user-curated recommendation list called Starter Pack.
