X (formerly Twitter) is no longer accessible from the Mac App Store, suggesting that it has been officially delisted.
Searching for both “Twitter” and “X” on Apple's platform no longer brings up the app, and the URL no longer works – instead, users see a pop-up message stating its unavailability, meaning new users can no longer download the service and will have to rely on the browser-based version.
Some people who already have the app installed have reported that it still works, while others have reported that the iPad version can have its own issues when used with MacOS.
X has not confirmed when the app was delisted and has not yet responded to TechCrunch's request for comment.
End of an era – Twitter Mac app has been removed from the App Store
— Vedant (@vedantapps) July 31, 2024
The company's Mac app, which many users have complained about being buggy, may be going away today. After Elon Musk rebranded Twitter to X in 2023, the new name was implemented on all platforms except for the Mac app, which hasn't been updated in about a year.
It's unclear if X plans to disable the feature entirely in the Twitter for Mac app. We'll update you as soon as we know more.
