File transfer service WeTransfer limits users to 10 transfers per month on its free plan. According to its support page, the company has already implemented new restrictions for users.
At the same time, WeTransfer adds some benefits to its free plan. This includes increasing the overall file transfer limit from 2GB to 3GB, adding unlimited portals (collaborative folders for working with clients) and reviews, and password protection for all transfers. It also plans to eliminate the 5% fee for paid transfers, a program that allows users to sell files on the platform.
The company was acquired by Italy-based Bending Spoons in July, which also changed its overall pricing structure. There is a new WeTransfer Starter plan for $6.99 per month. The Starter plan has the same benefits as the Free plan, but increases the size limit to 300 GB.
Previously, WeTransfer had Pro and Premium plans that cost $15 per month and $25 per month in the U.S., but now the company is bundling all the benefits into an Ultimate plan that costs $25 per month.

At the time of the acquisition, we wrote that Bending Spoons may lay off employees from WeTransfer or change product prices. Now both are true. In September, Bending Spoons announced it would cut 75% of its WeTransfer staff. And this time, changes have also been made to the price range.
The company followed the same strategy after acquiring Evernote in 2022. First, it reduced the number of employees working at Evernote and then limited the note-taking app's free plan. In August, the company also changed how files expire based on the plan a user subscribes to.
