WhatsApp today announced that it is rolling out a number of new formatting options on the app, including bulleted lists, numbered lists, block quotes, and inline code.
The company says these formatting features are available to users across iOS, Android, Web and Mac platforms. These options are perfectly used in one-on-one and group communication, as well as in the Channel His broadcast feature.
Here's how to use these features:
- Bulleted list: To start a bulleted list, enter the '-' symbol followed by a space.
- Numbered list: You can create a numbered list by typing a period and a space after the number. For example, “1.
- Block quotes: To insert a block quote and highlight specific text, type > followed by a space.
- Inline code: You can highlight a snippet of code by placing it between two '`' symbols.
WhatsApp already has basic text formatting options like bold, italics, strikethrough, and monospace. New features help users present content in different ways.
Chat apps have expanded communication options with communities, business messaging, and channels. So instead of sending large amounts of plain text, you also need to format it.
Last December, Meta rolled out AI-powered characters across all of its apps in the US. These formatting options can also help AI-powered bots display responses neatly.
