WhatsApp introduces support for passkey verification on iOS, eliminating the need for users to deal with SMS one-time passcodes. The iOS release comes six months after WhatsApp introduced passkey support on Android. The company announced Wednesday that the feature is currently rolling out and will be available to all iOS users in the coming weeks.
Once enabled, iOS users will be able to log back into WhatsApp using passkey verification via facial recognition, biometrics, or a PIN stored in Apple's Passkey Manager.
Passkey login makes it difficult for a malicious attacker to remotely access your account because they also need physical access to your phone. Passkeys also eliminate the need to rely on username and password combinations, which can be phishable.
WhatsApp users can go to the app settings and[アカウント]Go to options and new[パスキー]You can enable passkey verification by clicking the button and configuring the verification method.
“Passkey Verification makes logging back into WhatsApp easier and more secure. We're excited to launch this on WhatsApp and provide an additional layer of security for our users,” said Alice Newton, Head of Product at WhatApp. Rex said in an emailed statement.
WhatsApp joins a number of other companies that have recently started supporting passkeys, including X (formerly Twitter), Google, PayPal, and TikTok.
