A day after researchers revealed Company X's plans to test a NSFW adult community on the platform formerly known as Twitter, the company announced that community admins will have to ensure that the community's content is automatically filtered. To avoid this, we confirmed that you can set an “Adult Content” label in the settings. Otherwise, all his NSFW content will be filtered to the entire X community by default. Communities are small groups of X that have their own feeds outside of the main timeline.

This change confirms previous testing of NSFW communities discovered by various researchers and reverse engineers, and appears to indicate social networks more directly embracing the adult content that has always existed on their platforms. is.

NSFW (Not Safe for Work) content plays a big role in X. X is a major advertising venue for sex workers, as well as a site full of bots and spam focused on adult content. About 13% of all Twitter posts contained NSFW content, including nudity, explicit photos, videos and other pornography, according to internal documents obtained by Reuters in 2022. Additionally, the document showed that adult content is one of the fastest growing genres on the platform, even as news and sports are in decline.

The New York Intelligencer also recently detailed the rise of spam bots on the service, now known as X. The bot promotes his NSFW content with links in his profile and bio, and regularly responds to posts with messages like “nude in bio” and “photos.” Clearer terminology, such as 'biography'.

Hello everyone! Check out the latest updates and improvements from the X community. πŸ‘‡

Update (according to the latest version of the app):
– [All] Admins can now add topics to communities, and topics linked to a community can now be viewed on all devices.

Changes posted to X by Engineer were reshared by Musk. People who commented, β€œMany upgrades to the X community!”

The community was promoted last fall by owner Elon Musk and CEO Linda Yaccarino as a key part of Company X's growth plans.

According to a transcript obtained by The Verge, Musk explained that while the Communities product is growing rapidly, “we have a lot of work to do to make Communities compelling.” He also shared that X is showing a “rapid growth rate” in the community and adding new features, such as the ability to include an X account's feed in the community feed. For example, he said, a community focused on video games might want to include his X account for a prominent video game reviewer or commentator. X executives did not share their plans regarding the NSFW community at the time.

If X can make the community a successful product, it could become a competitor to large forum sites like Reddit, which hosts training data for Grok, a chatbot run by Musk's xAI, which has exclusive access to X content. there is a possibility.

The post hints at a new user interface for posting, and may also have a reply in the pipeline.
