X is rolling out improved community features. This allows users to have their own space and timeline to network around topics they care about. The company announced a number of changes to its community on Thursday, including improvements to discovery tools, recommendations, search and sorting options, and other updates are planned.
The broader goal is to connect X's user base with even more people, allowing them to post about specific topics and comment on other users' posts.
The community is an important part of making X (formerly Twitter) a more valuable company in terms of the data we provide. Already, Elon Musk's X has a relationship with his AI company xAI, whose Grok chatbot has access to real-time his But with X's Communities, the company could potentially build something as valuable as his Twitter firehose. In an ideal world, the community could grow into a source of information comparable to Reddit. On Reddit, data is currently only available to those who pay, and they can make millions of dollars. (Of course, it's debatable whether X Communities will ever reach the scale of Reddit. Still, xAI and Grok could benefit from even a modest increase in usage of this feature.)

X will also start showing community recommendations on the user's timeline. This is another big push that will help this feature get more attention. Additionally, communities can be searched by topic, making them easy to find. In the future, Communities will also add community analytics for moderators, community spaces (X's live audio product), and better moderation tools, the company said.
If X can encourage more users to participate and contribute to the community, the amount of data it can provide to Grok could increase, which would benefit both X and xAI. The former already offers access to the Grok chatbot for paid subscribers, and xAI is also widely distributed to her Grok via X.
