Since launching xAI last year, Elon Musk has been using the X as a sandbox to test out some of the AI features on the Grok model.
Moving beyond basic chatbots, X is using this model to summarize news and trending events. Now, the platform has launched a new feature called “More about this account,” which provides a few AI-generated sentences about the user. It seems useful enough, but the results are disappointing.
When paying users hover over their handle or display name on the web, they'll see a “Learn more about this account” button. Clicking this button generates an AI-powered summary. Sometimes Grok will give you general information about your account, but other times it'll give you information that's completely wrong.
For example, when I asked Grok about my colleagues Sean O'Kane and Amanda Silberling, he shared some general sentences about the types of posts they make on the platform.
Even more surprising, Grok has made my colleague Jagmeet Singh an expert on Canada, even though he hasn't posted much on the subject.

One of TechCrunch's editors, Ram Iyer, appears to have a branch account.

When I asked him about Hardik Pandya, SVP of design and product at education technology startup Unacademy, Grok told me about Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya.
In X's defence, the platform warns that Grok may make mistakes.
“Grok version 1.5 is early functionality and mistakes are possible. Please check the output.”
Even if Grok didn't get the information wrong, he hasn't added much useful information beyond what's easily found by looking at his account and biography.

Grok has access to X data, so new features should provide more information about the user. This feature needs to be rethought.
