Spotify is rolling out a feature that lets users design and customize cover art for their own playlists, the company announced Tuesday. Users can already upload custom images for their playlists, but this new feature will allow them to design their own cover art within the app.
The feature is rolling out in 65 markets as a beta version of the Spotify mobile app on iOS and Android. Available to both free and premium users.
To access this feature, select one of the playlists for which you want to create custom art. Next, tap the three-dot menu on the playlist page and click the “Create Cover Art” option.
From there, you can upload a photo from your camera roll or start with a blank canvas and experiment with different elements like text style, colors, effects, and more. You can also change the background color and add gradients. Additionally, you can also add stickers.

Spotify says you can only save one custom cover art per playlist at a time. This means that when you create new cover art, it will automatically replace the previous cover art for that particular playlist. If you create multiple cover art for a playlist, you must save the cover art before creating another cover art.
The ability to create custom cover art isn't a huge addition to the streaming service, but it's a fun feature. We'll also highlight Spotify's continued efforts to give users more ways to personalize their experience on the app. For example, the company is currently beta testing a feature that allows users to create personalized playlists based on written prompts.
The new feature comes as Spotify continues to add new features to its app as it continues to compete with services like Apple Music and YouTube Music.
Last week, Spotify announced it would be testing music videos for premium users in 85 more markets. This feature will allow Spotify to better compete with YouTube, considering the Google-owned platform natively supports music videos.
