YouTube is releasing a members-only version of Shorts that allows creators to share short videos only to paying viewers. This new feature gives paid subscribers access to their current membership benefits, plus additional content such as custom emojis, badges, and live streams.
YouTube's member-only short videos can encourage viewers to sign up for a paid membership. YouTube says creators can use new options to share special announcements, product drops, or limited-time sales. Creators can use members-only Shorts for Q&A, behind-the-scenes, clips of upcoming content, and more.
The announcement comes after TikTok recently began offering subscriptions to more creators. Earlier this month, TikTok announced that its LIVE subscription monetization tool was being renamed to “Subscriptions” and would soon be expanded to non-LIVE creators. This expansion will allow regular creators to post exclusive videos that are only viewable by paid members.
After uploading a Short video, creators can make the Short video available only to subscribers by selecting the new “Members Only” option in the “Public Settings” section. Creators can also mark existing short videos as members-only. Additionally, creators have the option to schedule shorts from members-only to public to give subscribers early access to content before it's available to others.
The Google-owned company encourages creators to make these short videos more casual and natural than their public content. This will allow subscribers to feel like they are getting a closer look into the creator's life and activities.
