YouTube Create, Google's standalone mobile app for creators that helps them create both short and long-form videos, has expanded to a broader market since beta testing began last fall. The app was initially available on Android in the US and select other markets, but will now be available in more than 10 additional countries, including Brazil, Spain, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, and more.
This brings Create to a total of 21 countries.
The idea behind Create is to provide video creators with an easy-to-use suite of free tools to create videos on the go. Announced at YouTube's Create event last September, the tool aims to address specific challenges creators face, such as editing videos and using creative tools like stickers, GIFs, and effects. is. The app also targets TikTok. TikTok has built-in creative tools and AR and AI filters, making it a popular choice for non-technical creators who want to experiment with videos but don't have the editing know-how.
Create allows users to upload clips, split and trim videos, use effects, and access royalty-free music to complement their videos. These songs are copyrighted and, similar to TikTok, the song's beats are synced to video clips.
Another popular tool, Audio Cleanup, leverages a denoising model to reduce background and ambient noise to improve the audio quality of users' clips recorded on their smartphones.
You also get built-in narration tools, including automatic and editable captions, with various options to style your text.
Once users are done editing, they can publish directly to YouTube with just a tap.
By offering a suite of tools specifically for YouTube creators, the company hopes to capture more of a market that prefers to use standalone tools for video editing. For example, TikTok has a large library of built-in effects, but many creators rely on ByteDance's other creative app, CapCut, to prepare their TikTok videos. Create offers a similar flow for those who want to publish on YouTube instead.
Starting today, the Create app will be available in new markets including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, and Turkey. It was initially launched in the US, Germany, France, UK, India, Indonesia, South Korea, and Singapore.
